The Walls of Jericho Fall at the Trumpets' Blast
Having wandered through the wilderness for forty years, the children of Israel at last arrived at the promised land. They crossed the Jordan river and laid siege to the walled town of Jericho. An angel of the LORD appeared to Joshua, the leader of the Israelite host, and instructed him on how he was to take the city.
Joshua gave orders to the priests and armed ment. Seven priests carrying seven trumpets made from the horns of rams went out in procession around the city, followed by the Ark of the Covenant. The armed men escorted them, one company leading the march, and one guarding the rear.
On six consecutive days, the caravan circled the city once. On the seventh day, they circled the city seven times. On the last circuit, Joshua commanded the army to give a great shout. The rams' horns sounded, the people cried out with all their strength, and the walls of Jericho collapsed before their very eyes. The city was delivered into their hands.
